Plug In with Park and Charge – A Complete Guide to Our New Charging Hubs

After months of careful planning and hard work, the opening of our very first set of charging hubs is just around the corner!

We’re in the process of installing 12 new, state-of-the-art electric vehicle chargers here in Bicester’s Cattle Market car park and we’re excited for you to come along and plug in. While charging at one of our hubs will be familiar to anyone who has owned an electric vehicle before, for lots of us this will be a new experience that might take a bit of getting used to.

Not to worry! Our chargers are quick and easy to use; we can boil the process down to just a few simple steps. You’ll have your vehicle locked in and charging up in no time!

1. Payment – There are several different ways you can pay for your charging session:

You can use your debit or credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay to make a contactless payment at the machine.

Alternatively, you can sign up now via the EZ-Charge web app and add credit to your account, which will be deducted once your session is complete. Soon, we’ll be bringing out a mobile version of the app so you will be able to process any payments and reserve charging spaces through that as well.

If you’re signed up already, you can also use your Park and Charge membership card which will charge the session straight to your account.

2. Charging – Next up, all you have to do is plug in. You might be thinking: how long do I leave it there? Well, this depends on how much juice you need and the amount of power flowing through the charger when you use it.

Our chargers are ‘smart’: their power varies from 3kW up to 22kW depending on the time of day and the availability of electricity in the grid. And the amount of power you get when you charge will be reflected in the cost at the end. Here’s a quick rundown of how these rates may vary.

🔌 At 7kW (typical overnight charging) you will get 25 (approx.) miles for every hour plugged in

🔌 At 11kW (normal daytime charging) you will get 50 miles (approx.) for every hour plugged in

🔌 At 22kW (maximum charging rate) you will get 75 miles (approx.) for every hour plugged in

3. Ending your session – Once you’ve come back to collect your vehicle, all you need to do is unplug the cable (for some cars this will involve unlocking the vehicle) and hang it up on the side of the machine. The screen on the charger will tell you how much power you have used and how much your session costs – this will be automatically charged through the payment method you selected when you first arrived.

And that’s it! Once your payment has been processed it’s time to drive off with a full (or sufficiently topped up) battery and enjoy the rest of your day.

We’ll be sharing all the latest information about Park and Charge Oxfordshire, including updates on all the new chargers we’re installing and events we’re organising, via our social media channels. So make sure to give us a follow to keep up to date with the project!
